Raise your right hand and repeat after me:

I promise not to spend a fortune decorating my home for Christmas. I will beg, borrow and steal (okay, not really) in order to make my home warm and inviting for the Holidays.

Use what you have.  Or borrow from your mother-in-law.

Got it?

I wanted to make a large centerpiece for my dining room table but didn’t have a bowl big enough. So I borrowed my mother-in-law’s punch bowl and I think it did the trick.

The only thing I purchased for this centerpiece was a $20 faux Christmas wreath from Lowes last week. I used it underneath the bowl to add depth texture and some jazz! For those of you following, remember I used a wreath around a pumpkin for my Thanksgiving centerpiece. Seen here.

I used a candle from my year-round decor and threw in some pine cones and ornaments from my Christmas box. I also add a few twigs of faux holly to the wreath to beef it up just a tad.

We also have a “wine pouring station” (aka wine tray!) and wanted to add just a touch of Christmas there as well.  See those crystal candle stick holders?  The secret?  They are bud vases from Goodwill.  .29 a piece!

On our buffet, I used garland I already owned, a few feather trees I already owned, a hurricane with candle I already owned and two “new” candlestick holders (thrift store- $7.99 for the set!) with candles I already owned. Are you catching the theme here?

The faux Christmas ensemble beside the buffet is from a yard sale many, many moons ago. I paid $15 for it and that’s it. Here she is all lit up and I think she turned out pretty well.

So this year, I spent less than $30 on the whole thing and hope you think she’s lovely too.  Let us know what you think and what you’re doing this year! Our Comment button is at the top of the post by the title. Thanks!

  8. Really like how you improvised and used a punch bowl, that was really clever, and they are usually very pretty. The centerpiece came out beautifully and love the wreath beneath the bowl. Pretty creative aren’t you! Thanks for sharing over at Sunday’s Best, and for sharing your creativeness.

[...] I used a flower vase for my candle holder!  I have quite a few flower vases laying around and couldn’t find another use for them, so why not use them for candles?  Here is a shot from my dining room where I used 3 bud vases (from Goodwill) for candle holders for my “wine pouring station” which I discuss here.
