An exceptionally talented friend of mine, Diane Wise of Wise Choices here in Greensboro, recently visited when I complained about a couple of ugly things in my house. While we were gabbing in my kitchen, I mentioned that it needed a facelift. My kitchen, like the rest of us, is getting older and needs to be nipped and tucked, much like myself.
Since our budget can’t really afford the sophisticated hardwood floors I crave, we discussed starting with painting my island black. Black. Yep, that’s right. Black.
She mentioned that just by painting that one piece, I would start to see the transformation I desire. I thought “hmm, we’ll just see about that.”
But here’s the problem. I HAVE NO DESIRE TO SAND ANYTHING in order to paint it. That’s what has kept me from painting furniture all these years. You will see if you look closely that two doors of my white cabinets are no longer quite white. Note- they look a little “creamy.” Bizarre. There’s an official word out there for what the cabinets actually are called-”melamine.” Not Real Wood.
However, I stumbled upon this amazing product from Rustoleum that comes in a nifty little box sold at Home Depot after seeing an ad in a magazine.. If you’ve perused our Home tab, you may have seen it listed. For just $75, this kit can be yours. Here’s why you want it. NO SANDING REQUIRED. It’s an easy four step process – if you can use a rag and paint brush, you too can transform your space. And it’s not just for kitchens!
The four part “program” goes something like this- degloss (using a rag on your current cabinet), paint (included in the kit and gets tinted at the store), glaze (this is optional!) and the final coat (I can’t remember exactly what they call it).
Anyway, I’m posting my before picture of the island. (Be sure to check out the nightlight that is lit up in the daytime- hilarious.) I’m in the process of finishing up the details so stayed tuned!
